The Feast of Pentecost

The Feast of Pentecost—The Story of Tongues of Fire! One of the several names and celebrations for Pentecost Sunday (Shavuot), is Matan Torah. The giving of the first 5 books of the Bible on Mt Sinai.

God descended upon the Mount that burned with fire, the trumpet sounded, as cloud and tempest roared… And the Voice of Words. God’s Word! Ex 19:16

Rabbinic tradition says that while God spoke, a hammer & anvil struck those Tables of Stone engraving the Ten Commandments. Ex …20:1-18

With each stroke of the anvil sparks (or tongues) of fire flew outward. It then split-up into 70 parts…One for each language in the world at that time. Rav Yochanan

The significance for the Jews was that they were to fulfill their calling to be a Nation of Priests TO THE NATIONS (Goyim). Ex 19:6

And, that Torah was not just for them BUT, it would be the reason why all the nations of the world would be blessed thru them! Gen 12:3

How appropriate then, that on the Day of Pentecost, that there were devout men, Jews, out of every nation under heaven and that every man heard them speak in their own tongue. Acts 2:8

When the Holy Spirit, by the Anvil of God writing His Laws upon fleshly Tables of the Heart, struck on that day…There appeared on them Cloven Tongues (Sparks) of Fire! Then they spoke with other Tongues as the Spirit gave them the utterance. Acts 2:1-4

So it was fulfilled, “I will pour out of My Spirit on ALL flesh”! Acts 2:14-18

Also, you shall be witnesses unto me in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria & All the Earth. Acts 1:8

Clearly the Character of God, thru His word, enters our hearts to make us living epistles, written NOT with ink, but by the Spirit of the Living God. II Cor 3:3

May the Holy Spirit strike anew in our hearts, as it did the first time, He baptized us with the Holy Ghost & Fire… Sparking a New Desire to Preach with Passion!
